I can recommend "What Life Was Like: On the Banks of the Nile". This is part of the "What Life Was Like" series put out by Time-Life Publishers. This series of books give you an idea of what life was like for the common people. Most history books concentrate on wars and the leaders of countries.

There is also "How They Lived: The Egyptians" by Neil Grant
