The accident happened at around 2:30 in the morning. It was a male driver who had veered into the other lane and died at the scene.

The police should definitely have a report and documented account of it.  Call the police in the city where it happened or if it was on a highway...call the highway patrol.   They should be able to help and allow you to come pick up a report or possibly mail one to you.
