Question:

Where can I find information on the Sociology job market in Pennsylvania?

I plan on majoring in Sociology or Behavioral Sciences, with a goal of working in community outreach, welfare, medicaid, drug and alcohol counseling, something of that nature. I live in Pennsylvania and I would like to continue living in the Harrisburg area.

These details are irrelevent to you, but I'm trying to give you an idea of the information I am taking into consideration. Are there any websites where you can enter information of that sort and find out what the job market is like? Such as how many jobs are available and what they pay?

Thank you all in advance!

  1. Check the local papers in Harrisburg.  From the list of goals it doesn't sound like you should be majoring in sociology...instead social work or psychology.  Sociologists are not trained to do counseling, nor certified. I suggest you talk to an academic counselor and get your college major in sync with your goals.  Good luck!  (college psychology professor)
