Where can I find information or statistics on gun related offenses?

Question

I'm doing research for an informative essay for a criminal justice class. It is going to be on the reasons for obtaining a CCW License and I am trying to find statistics on violent offenses or self defense cases where a concealed weapon was used. If possible, I'd like to know whether the individuals involved in these offenses were licensed. That is where I am getting stuck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This might be of assistance, if you looking for specific states you will be able to find them by typing in the state + Uniform Crime Reports, I'm pretty sure the general public can access them online.

For the second part you might have to go to your local law library

The uniform crime report is a good start however most defensive uses of a handgun where the attacker ran off are not reported and therefore do not appear.

This skews your data as Dr John Lott Found out and documented in his book, More Guns, Less Crime.
