no special needs. I hope that does not sound bad, but I think some people are just more able to handle severe special needs, and I think we would do better with a child with mild or no special needs. We are a long while away from actually adopting, but I just thought I would try to narrow down some sites - either USA or International.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  2. There really aren't young healthy children waiting to be adopted. There are more want to be parents than there are children. Most   kids who meet your criteria are quickly adopted by those waiting. Instead it is the parents that have to wait for a child.

In the US most babies are adopted at birth. Young children will be available mostly through the foster care system. These will be children that were abused &/or neglected by their families. The child protection agencies try and keep them with their families if possible, so many don't become available for adoption. If they do they often try to place a group of siblings together.

With international adoption, the home country tries to place them internally before allowing them to be adopted internationally. Also it needs to ensure they are really orphans etc. So many children adopted internationally are about a year old when they are actually able to come to the US. But again there are usually parents waiting, and you have to get in the appropriate queue.

  3. You will find those through your Adoption worker after your home study is approved. Most of the children waiting for adoptive parents are not published on the internet...Only the children who have very special needs and we hope families are found before they age out....

Anyway--if you want to see the children talk with your adoption worker that is who provides Home Study approved parents with any REAL information about the waiting children...

    Good Luck

  4. If you live in the states already one of the best places I have found is with the Health and Welfare office. It falls under the foster care department but there are alot of children that will not go back to the parents and are in need of permanent homes. These children range from birth to teenager. Most are pretty intelligent kids that through no fault of their own are in the system waiting for someone to love them and teach them about families. The child starts out as a foster placement and the State pays you for the child being in your home. Gives you a chance to see what and how things are going to work out. After wards the state gets the signatures required for the parental termination and aides you in filing for the parental rights. There is a sky full of wonderful children that need someone to love.

  5. There are web sites where you can look at photos and bulletins of waiting children.  Unfortunately, by the time you are finished with the adoption process, these children will have already been adopted.  When my husband and I finished the application process, we spent the day looking at the most current bulletins, and have looked at probably 150 bulletins since then.  I don't know how things work in your state, but it's pretty quick here.  Once the caseworker puts out a bulletin for a child, the plan is to find a family for the child ASAP (not really rushing it, but the caseworker works on it until the child is placed).

I'm not sure what the web site is for your state.  But my suggestion would be to call your local DHS and ask about the process.  It should take at least a few months to complete the paperwork and classes necessary to get approved (if you're interested in adopting foster/special needs kids, you can go directly through DHS for this), and then after that, you will receive current bulletins from your caseworker.

I wish you luck on your journey!

  6. the girl in JUNO looked in the penny saver. try there! =(

  7. before you even start to look for a child, find out what you need to do to get approved for adoption and follow thru. The agencies have all kinds of resources to look for children. and they probably already have children in mind ready to adopt. It can be a long process to get approved.
