Question:

Where can I find more information on the The Colored Hockey League?

The CHL (The Colored Hockey League) was formed in 1894. They had a dozen or so teams and were composed of American runaway slaves freed by the Underground Railroad. I just read a book about this called Black Ice. It is a good read. Strangely, I was unable to find a website that allows you to research or look into these players, their stats, or anything. From a league that may have strongly influenced the way the NHL is played today, do you find it strange that there is so little information on this subject? Do you know of a website where I can look up specific players and or teams in the CHL?

Thanks.

  1. Haley.......those writers (The Fosty's) are grasping at alot of straws. Alot of BS IMO.

I know alot of the people quoted in the book.....Craig Smith (I worked with him on a late night basketball program for little b******s) and Wayne Adams (have dealings with him as he is a city councilor).

These guys claim that hockey was originated by blacks in Halifax (offspring of American slaves). I firmly believe it was originated in Windsor, Nova Scotia by white college students. I have researched this alot and they have better support for their claims. The Fosty's are just trying to sell books.

  2. Hockey Hall of Fame has something on it I think...come on up to Canada and have a look.

  3. Wow, great stuff, I'm gonna have to go get that book and take a look.

**The Wiki article citations are great too, theres even a video documentary,
