I am moving from an apartment to another one across the street. I was thinking of hiring a moving company but then since we are just moving across the street, I wonder if there is alternatives than a moving company? I live in Orange County, Southern California. Any suggestions?

  1. Sounds like you need to ask some of your neighbors/friends for help.  We did this recently with our move.  We had everything ready to go early one morning.  Everyone showed up on the morning of our move, and we had a great time getting things done.  After everything was moved, we had a cookout at our new home as a way of saying thanks!  Maybe you could do something similar.

    Good luck to you!!!

  2. I agree with getting friends or neighbors to help.  Maybe you can get or rent a dolly for the heavy things.  We called the local high school to get some boys to help and paid them$10 an hour.  Mainly for the heavier things. We did not know anyone and moved twice in the same town so we got the boys,  They did a good job.  If school isnt in, just put an ad up or in the paper)

  3. Personally I would hire a couple of illegals for a few hours.

They will work for 10 an hour, plus lunch.

  4. If you choose to go with landlord's idea, i am sure there are day labor sites, or around any Home Depot/Lowes where you can find a helping hand.  Go hang out in the tile department, they may ask if you need help tiling, you then ask if they know some guys who will help you move.
