Where can I find non-violent action figures for preschoolers?

I'm looking for non-violent action figures like firefighters, policemen, construction worker for my almost 4 yr.-old son. He likes watching Rescue Heroes but those figures/toys have been discontinued, so they are not only HTF but expensive on Ebay or elsewhere. Isn't there anything else than mean Spiderman, Batman, even soldier dolls with guns?! I didn't see anything appropriate at TRU's or online so far. And everything is based on a TV show/movie. Please help!

  1. Try to go to these stores:Wall mart,Toysrus,TargetandKB Toys

  2. just try target, wal mart, or KB toys

most toy stores should have something...good luck

  3. Lakeshore will have community action figures.  If there's not a store in your area then you can order from the catalog.

    www.lakeshorelearning.com

  4. I would stay away from figures that already had roles assigned to them and get generic figures.  My answer has many reasons. If you have the figures as generic it invites an area of creativity that figures with distinction cant.  If you use generic figures it is cheaper, easier to replace and you avoid one my top rules "Never have one of anything in pre-school. " These figures could also be used to represent themselves within solitary or parallel play  where, through observation, you could learn a lot about your children.  I think that you could also get more out of these in different times as you could introduce different props to lend them arenas of discovery.  (example would be having all of the figures with Popsicle sticks, blocks and cheap material and see where they take it.) .....then rotate in later some other materials of choice that are age appropriate.  I would also see this as a great way to encourage the children to assign roles, negotiate and interpret within the community/class.  These figures could be an incredible resource for story telling or for the children to tell stories that are fantasy, or profoundly real.  I wish you well with finding this for your children.  Dont over think this one and let them show you all of the stories to be acted out by characters that THEY create. Good luck with this........

  5. here's a link to childcraft's career people and community figures:

    https://www.childcrafteducation.com/Sear...

here's the same for discount school supply's:

    http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Prod...

and here's the same for Lakeshore:

    http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/search/...

these sets are really good quality, they hold up without being broken in my preschool classroom :) also, what i like about them is they don't assign roles to be gender specific. for example, there's a female doctor and female police officer. if the lakeshore link gives you a hard time, do a search for block figures within their website.
