Where can I find off-site parking near Duquesne University (Pittsburgh)?

I'm hoping some Pittsburghers will drop by and be able to help me out a bit. I'd be parking there weeknights after 4:00-5:00 pm and leaving by 8:30 pm. I'm hoping to find somewhere that's a little cheaper than parking on campus, but not too far away where walking to my car alone at night won't leave me mugged, raped, kidnapped, or killed. :)

P.S. I have pepper spray!

  1. Duquesne isn't in the best part of the city to park off-site. I know there are a few lots around, but they usually aren't open at night unless there is an event. You can try on-street parking, but it is fairly expensive and is enforced until 6 p.m., so you would have to keep running out to put quarters in the meter until a little after 6 to avoid getting a ticket. In your situation, I would suck it up and use the garages at Duquesne or perhaps the garages at Mercy.

I guess if you don't mind walking a little bit, you can park at one of the garages near the courthouse. After 5 pm all the Downtown garage rates go to a 5 or 6 dollar flat rate. That may also hold true at Duquesne and Mercy. The walk from the courthouse isn't too scary. I used to do it all the time when I was in college (I went to Point Park and had friends at Duquesne). It's just when you pass Mercy Hospital and get into the Hill District that it can be kind of shady.
