  1. Call the local Health Unit and ask for a list of licensed preschools including home day cares which tend to be smaller and the attention more personal.  Both have to pass licensing requirements.

Kids are in school a long time in Canada, and a structured home day care with lots of fun activities and fewer children can be a more hospitable environment for a child, particularly if everything is strange and new to him or her.

When facilities have to pass the licensing process they have to achieve a certain minimum acceptable standard of quality care and safety requirements.  Good luck.

  2. You are wanting preschools, not day care, correct? I know of some good schools in the NW and some excellent teachers, but don't want to name them here. Feel free to contact me personally as well as looking into the information below.

You might have a difficult time finding a spot for fall 2008 as registration for most preschools took place back in March or April. Also, preschools are now closed until September, so it may be difficult to contact them.

http://www.edmontonpreschoolassociation....  You'll find a list of preschools by area as well as contact information for the EPA if you need more information.

You can also contact daycare licensing as the license preschools under the category "nursery schools". http://www.child.gov.ab.ca/home/702.cfm

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of help.
