Where can I find out about the line which ran through Tiptree in Essex?

My wifes grandad was the last station master there.

  1. The line which ran through Tiptree was the Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway. Tiptree was late on the railway map, the line not opening until 1904, It was known locally as 'the Crab and Winkle line'. It was any early victim of closures, the end coming in 1952.   3. Witham to Maldon line; single track as I recall. I travelled on it once to Wickham Bishops station. The line was closed following the publication of the Beeching Report.

    There are a number of good histories on that era - try your local library.
