I have many medals and photos of where he had been, but all's i really know is that he was a Sgt. and he served in Africa and I think.. fought the japanese? Is there somekind of specific military source I can look into, for finding more information, since he wasn't one to talk about it himself.

  1. The Imperial War Museum will be able to tell you how he won his medals and will have access to his military record.

  3. This Google link below gets you loads of site to check with.  Or you could simply telephone the MoD and ask them where British Army Records for WW2 are kept.

Your next port of call should be the Royal British Legion.  They will have an expert who can help you with your Grandfather's medals.  These presumably will be campaign medals, which are issued to soldiers who took part in operations in a given theatre of war.

    Good luck. . . .

  4. National Archives at Kew have service records.
