Where can I find out what type of new mattress is for me?

I have slept on the same twin size bed for the last 12 years of my life, and I'm only 19 years old right now. I'm also a big kid, I'm 6' 4" and 220 lbs. I've decided to get a new mattress because I'm way too tall for a twin size bed and I wake up with back pain. So I went out (not really knowing much about mattresses) and spent $1300 on a new queen size plush pillow top matress from Macy's, and here I am 6:50 am the first morning after sleeping on it, and my back is killing me! When I bought this mattress, I figured pillowtop = comfort...apparently I was wrong. Everything the sales lady said about this mattress sounded pretty comfy, but obviously she was just selling me a mattress. So now I need to return this mattress and buy a new one, but I don't know where to start! Also when the delivery man delieverd my mattress yesterday, he said he didn't think this was firm enough for me, should I get a firmer mattress? Those don't seem like they would be very comfortable. Please help me!

  1. hard question! I think temurpedic lets you try them out for 30 days or so. Any time you get a new mattress of any kind it will most likely hurt the first days or weeks. your body has to adjust to something different. The one you just bought might not be so bad, as your body doesn't know it well. But take it back and try something you can test a while. I have a simmons beauty rest and love it, my husband is also 6'4 and 240 he loves it. It all depends on what feels good to you!! the sleep number beds are great too!

  2. Personally I highly recommend the Sleep Number bed.  I love mine!  I can make it firmer or softer at the touch of a button and usually wake up pain-free.... Go try one out at a store, they usually sell them in malls...

  3. Memory foam mattresses are the innovations in bedding. By using viscoelastic material in production of mattresses has improved sleep comfort, offered the best support, spine alignment and pressure relief. Here are reviews of the highest rated memory foam mattresses from the leaders.

    1) Sealy TrueForm Mattress

Sealy mattresses have been consistently getting high ratings for a long time. The company is the world’s biggest producer of mattresses.

    2) Simmons ComforPedic Mattress

Originally Simmons offer viscoelastic mattress, but today they make their own brand and even claim that they have introduced the 'next generation' of this kind of mattress.

    3) Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Tempur-Pedic mattresses were the first to use viscoelastic material while making a mattress. It solely makes memory foam mattresses and is the market leader.

  4. I work in beddings and linens.... don't know a great deal about mattresses, but have learned alot through my customers.  And your right... "pillow top" doesn't equate to comfort in all cases.  The pillow top portion of the mattress only offers comfort, no support.  So if you feel you need a firmer mattress, try to buy one without a pillow top... you really don't need it.  Make sure it is not too firm...that again will lead to back pain.  Also, be careful of the depth of the mattress... 13" - 16" high is good....after that, it will become difficult and expensive to buy "high profile sheets" for the mattress.  Oh...and also... try to stay away from "memory foam"... it is not a natural product and does not breath at all...meaning, your comfortable cooler sleeps will be very hot/sweaty.  Hope you're new one works out better for you !!

  5. A firmer mattress might be a better choice as you are suffering from back pain. You might want to consider a memory foam mattress as it is not too hard or too soft.

The memory foam molds to the curves in your body, providing you a better support, and re-distribute the body’s weight evenly.

I would suggest you to return your mattress if you are not feeling comfortable with it.

For your future mattress purchases, buy from stores with 30 day money back guarantee, just in case that you are not feeling good with your new mattress.
