Where can I find pieces I can use to make my own furniture?

Ikea sells table tops and legs so that you can sort of design your own furniture. I'm looking to create a desk with some drawers. Do you know of a website where I can get these pieces? I'm talking just a slab, a couple drawers, and some legs. At Ikea the table top thing costs $140. There's got to be a better deal out there right?

building demolition places look in the local yellow pages you pick up good timber and bits for bugger all..

  A traditional large desk top is a hollowcore birch door, finished both sides and laid on a stack of blocks or stacked drawer units in frames like those sold at Container Store.
