Question:

Where can I find poetry on the theme of grief or death?

I lost my husband to a car accident 2 months and 6 days ago. Just yesterday it seemed to become real, and really "hit" me all at once.

However, I find reading poems about death or grief, however teary-eyed they may make me, has really helped me cope with this reality.

Does anyone know of any websites with such poetry?

  1. This online journal devoted an entire issue to poems about death.  I hope you'll find something there that will help you deal with your grief and loss.

  2. I always use Yahoo or Google search engines to research any topic.  Try using different words like poems on death or poetry for widows, etc.  Here are a few sites I found:

    http://www.quotesandpoem.com/poems/Selec...

    http://www.familyfriendpoems.com/family/...

    http://www.netpoets.com/poems/death/

I am so sorry for your loss and there are no words anyone can give you to really help.  Time will eventually ease your pain.  May your memories of happy times together also be a comfort to you.  I don't know what your beliefs are about death and the "after-life"...but I do believe his spirit and love remain with you always.

  3. I like Dylan Thomas' "Do not go gentle into that good night" and the lyrics to John Lennon's "In My Life". My condolences.

I feel for you (as much as I can, having never experienced the same)

I hope you find something that helps.
