I remember when I went to a Maritime Academy, they used to feed us all these statistics about how many injuries (incidents) there were for each shipboard job. I'm taking an Occupational Health/Industrial Hygiene course and I was looking for these numbers and I can't find it ANYWHERE. HELP!!!!

  1. You're not going to find them.  There is no legal obligation to report any shipboard injury to a central public accessible clearinghouse.  DOD won't release casualty numbers due to secrecy.  Foreign flag merchant ships have no desire to report to America.  OSHA doesn't have authority over merchant vessels.  They think they do, but their power is limited in regards to what happens aboard ship.  You may need to re-focus your search.

  2. Try the nearest US Coast Guard Marine Safety Office. You can find it on the uscg web-site.  Good Luck
