Where can I find skilled chess opponents in Long Beach, California?

Question

I'm currently an intermediate player, playing since I was about 10 (I'm 20 now). Recently my interest in the game has renewed and I have been playing dozens of games a day on yahoo chess. In order to improve my game to the next level, I wish to find a local chess club or gathering place. Unfortunately the local chess park doesn't seem to attract players anymore and there is no formal chess club (USCF) that I could find online. My closest option is in LA which would be a 45 minute drive and is unreasonable. Any suggestions?
