Question:

Where can I find some exercises to improve my muscles that don't require expensive equipment or gyms

I really need to get back into shape and I'm particularly interested in putting on some more muscle (And keeping it on). However I really detest going to Gyms and would prefer to work out at home, and I can't afford to buy dumb bells or machines or anything to help. So is there anywhere I can look for exercises to improve muscles that don't require any machinery or can be performed with Household items or other common items?

  1. You can do push ups to build muscles on your arms and shoulders;

    Sit ups to build a wash-board stomach;

    Butt crushes (on hands and knees then raise each leg towards upwards) for a butt you'd love to show off in your new tights;

    Instead of dumbbells you can lift bags of sand, canned foods, 3L juice bottles, bricks wrapped in towels...just take a look around and use your imagination.

  2. I've answered lots of questions like these before in real life, so I'm well-prepared. Please prepare to read up a storm :]

    First off, a lot of people think the only way they can get in shape/bulk up is by buying equipment or going to a gym. This is far from true. There are lots of things you can do at home, and I will tell you some of them.

    If you want exercises with NO prop at all, try these::

    Push ups

    Sit ups

    Thigh crunches

    Calf raises

    Pointing and flexing your feet

    If you want exercises with household/common items, try::

    For muscles in your arms (biceps, triceps, shoulders)::

    My dad's a carpenter and he lifts a lot of furniture. Find something moderately-weighted on a soft surface, like a carpet, and lift the edge a bit. Hold that for about 10 seconds and repeat about 5 times taking a short break in between. You may increase the difficulty by either increasing the weight of the item, increasing the time you hold it/reps, or the height that you hold it at.

    Instead of dumbbells, try using something more common, like rocks. You can also go to a hardware store and buy hammers, etc. which you can use. Anything with metal will really work, because metal is one of the cheapest, heaviest materials you can find.

    Do you have any children/friends who would be willing to help? You can lift these people, too. Don't lift them too high, though, because you do not want them to drop. Lift them a little bit off the ground depending on their size, so they can jump down if needed.

    For muscles in your legs (calves, thighs, glutes)::

    Try a daily jog or walk. You can also ride a bicycle for about 30 min. All of these are also aerobic activities, which are good for your heart and get your blood circulated!!

    Lay on the ground with your feet bent and about 2 feet away from a very heavy, sturdy item, such as a metal safe, and that item right next to a wall. Flex your feet and PUSH (as hard as you can) against the item (it helps to have another heavy item behind your head so that you don't travel back and ruin the purpose of the exercise) for about 10 seconds. Do this 5 times and increase the amount of seconds when you feel comfortable.

    Please note that if you want to keep the muscle you are aiming for, you can't just exercise for a while and stop abruptly. You must make it a part of your regular routine. Try a different acitvity for every specific day of week that you'd like (you don't have to exercise every day--try 4 or 5 days at most because you do need some time to relax) at a specific time so you won't forget. If you make exercising a part of your daily routine, you will be back in shape (and buff, too!) in no time!!

    **REMEMBER:: Drink plenty of water while exercising. The more you sweat, the more your body needs!**

    I hope this helped you! Good luck!

  3. Lift a few weights and a daily jog. Easy enough.... in theory..

  4. Try yoga!

  5. go to youtube and search the psycho squad they are masters of this sort of training or alternatively go to rosstraining.com
