Question:

Where can I find some good simulated chicken?

I've been a vegetarian for a little over a year, and I've found some veggie dogs that I like, some breaded chicken, and veggie burgers.

I've yet to find one of my favourites; Chicken Breast. All the ones I've tried have been too chewy and they never taste right.

Any suggestions?

  1. Have you tried making your own seitan yet?  It's not really chicken flavored--the flavor depends on the simmering broth--but you can make your own seitan "b*****s."  I think Harvest Direct also makes veggie "brests" that are supposed to be chicken-like, but I have yet to try them because you have to reconstitute them and then use them in a recipe.

  2. Gosh, there is one brand that Jewel/osco sells. I am not so sure where you are from and if you have Jewel, but they have a vegetarian/vegan/organic section in thier produce isle.  I cannot remember the name but they are "lemon pepper chicken strips", not breaded and not frozen. They are pricey, but they are soooo frickin good! They are the same consistancy of chicken breast, if you like that, you will love them.  They make all sorts of great vegan and vegetarian foods.  They were extremely tender.

Also, if you are finding the faux meat to be chewy, it is most likely being overcooked, which is extremely easy to do.  Most products like that are already pre-cooked and only need to be heated in the microwave for a couple seconds till warm. I like to drizzle a little water on the top before microwaving my vegi items to keep them extra moist and tender.

  3. Thats because you can never, ever replace the original. Real chicken will always taste good, fake chicken can never taste like real chicken, similar, but never the same.
