Where can I find some pictures of houses from the early 1900's?

Question

I'd like to take a look at some old school houses from the exterior and interior because I might want to either buy a house that bears a resemblance to the houses of the early years or ask for a contractor to redesign my house to look like one from the early 1900's. I have an affection for the old school look of houses.

Have a look at your local Social History Museum, they sometimes have early pictures of all local buildings including school houses?

Failing that try googling for 1900's school houses?

Places to try:

the public library

the state historical library and archives

the office of the city historian (who may be able to direct you to resources)

or the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) which documents your state's historic sites. They should also be able to direct you to schools on the National Register of Historic Places which often have a rich photographic history.
