Question:

Where can I find someone that can make metal cake stand rods (1/4") in both 2 and 3 tiered with threading

They resemble dowel rods but are in pieces and have threading at the end of each piece of the rod in order to attach and hang each tier using a nut on the underside.

They also usually have something decorative on top as a handle or to be able to lift the stand.

I've found some wholesalers over-seas to order from but they have a minimum order of 5000 pieces, which is way to many for my needs.

Surely someone here in the states can do this for me but I don't know where to start to look.

Thanks for any help!!

  1. Do you have the plates? Can't tell form the question.

For the rods, the first place I would check is Home Depot. Sounds like all you really need is a piece of 1/4" pipe, cut to size and threaded at each end. They can cut and thread for you .... just find someone who works there and knows what they're doing.

The handle might be a bit tricky - you may want to do without OR find a local welder/ metal worker (yellow pages) who will work something up for you.

You might want to pick up some glossy spray paint, too while you're at it, if the pieces will show under the cake stand. The Rust-Oleum type stuff would probably serve you well.

    Have fun!

  2. First check a restaurant supply store. There are plenty in the USA and possibly right in your neighborhood.

If they don't have what you want, you can contact a metal fabricator. You can find them in your local yellow pages. It will be very expensive though.

  3. If you have ever watched the cake creation shows on the Food Network, you will notice that they get pipe, etc. from a hardware store.  Just make sure whatever you get from there, you make sure that it is ok to use on food.  Check with the salesperson.
