Where can I find someone to translate an obituary that is written in Cherokee?

I have an obituary written in Cherokee syllabary and am looking for someone to translate it into English for me.

You may be able to contact the Cherokee Nation. Cherokee.org would be a good place to start. If they do not have translators on staff they could probably help you find one. Good luck!

I am sorry you are having a hard time getting a response from the Cherokee Nation. A Museum would be another place to look for a translator, perhaps search for one in Tahlequah, Ok.

Check out this link. On this page (the link below) there is a link where you can email the creator of the website and tell them if that website was helpful....see if you can rouse some interest there. The alphabet looks a bit complicated.

You can try to run it through a translator or use a dictionary to work it out.  I do this quite a bit for my Ojibwe records. It's slow going as most sites are rather incomplete so you may have to visit more than one to get it down. At least one of these has the script.
