Question:

Where can I find switches for retail audio displays?

A lot of big stores like Circuit City or Magnolia Audio Video or Best Buy have switches in their audio department where you can select which amplifier and/or speaker you want to listen to.

I work at a small store that sells speakers and amplifiers (among other things) and would like to know where those switch systems can be obtained.

???

  1. Wow...that's a tough one.  I thought I might be able to search and find something especially made for POS (point of sale) displays but didn't.

Simple rotary speaker selectors are easy enough to find.  Switches are often given as the number of "poles" or sources and "throws" or destinations.  For example, a DP5T (double pole, 5 throw) switch could be used between one two channel amp and 5 different pairs of speakers.

Then there's the problem of making sure someone doesn't route a 1000 Watt amp to a pair of 20 Watt speakers.  RadioShack sells something for a 4-pair setup that's supposed to handle that problem...http://www.radioshack.com/sm-monster-cab...

    ...and so does Crutchfield ($$$)...http://www.crutchfield.com/S-gRQmaSuuYwq...

Also, many automotive DVD receivers have video output which really complicates things!

Hope you can find something that works!
