I live in West Covina which is near LA in San Gabriel Valley. I love going out for sushi with friends but i'm sometimes left wishing we had gone somewhere else. What places do you recommend?

  1. (Take out only):

This is near West Covina (in South San Gabriel/Monterey Park area).  It's a small local Japanese market TOZAI FOODS (JAPANESE MARKET).  They have one of the best sushi available in the area, and reasonably priced too.  It's also the freshest.  The local Japanese folks goes to this place for their sushi and other Japanese products regularly (This one is off of the 60 Frwy. & Paramount Blvd. exit).

    (Restaurant):

Here's another location, but it's in Monrovia (off of the 210 freeway & Huntington Drive...not far from West Covina).  It's good (not as great as above, but really good for your money...they also have a few good write ups).  All you can eat sushi is available at this place too:  KIKU SUSHI RESTAURANT

And, in Japanese Town, on the corner of Alameda and 2nd Street, in the Honda Plaza.  There are a couple really good sushi places worth going to too

Hope this helps.  You won't be disappointed with TOZAI MARKET (not to be confused with **TODAI BUFFET RESTAURANT....**they're just okay)

  2. A bit out of the way, but Octopus in Glendale on Maryland (just north of Broadway) is pretty darn good.  They just started their happy hour every day of the week from 4-6pm.  What can be better that $0.99 hot sakes?

Aside from the drinks, they have some $1.99 rolls and their regular menu.  If you ever decide to go, make sure to sit at the bar and buy your chef(s) a few Kirins.  It doesn't happen all the time, but they will more often than not thank you by making a special dish off of the menu for you and let me tell you, those are simply fantastic.

Whatever you do, please stay away from Todai if you want good sushi.

  3. LAX, buy a ticket for Tokyo. Best sushi.

  4. Oh there is a bunch - OK I know this sounds crazy but there is this place in Rancho Cucamonga (I don't know the name of it) next to Margaritaville (foothill before haven) (you look like you prolly know where that is ;) ) And they have the best sushi!!! I live in SGV too and i still drive all the way out there to get some. Oh and then when your done you can go party at the club next door. Now thats a fun sushi dinner.

  5. Akasaka in Hacienda Heights.  Don't let the location discourage you.  This place is by far the best in the SGV.  It's in a run down residential/commercial area, but it is the BEST.  That being said, it's not the cheapest...you get what you pay for.  Trust me, this is truly great japanese food owned by folks from the homeland.
