My friend is coming to visit from England and I've been telling him all about butter tarts and Nanaimo bars - and yes I could make them myself but I'm looking for a place that sells excellent ones! I'm hoping for one that's not too sweet but as long as its delicious I'll be happy! Thanks in advance

  1. Local traditional bakeries are going to probably be your best bet.  You won't find them at higher end bakeries because realistically they are a 'cheap' style dessert.  But I have found those traditional bakeries where you can get everything from cakes to cookies to pastry to bread (not the bakeries in the local Safeway or Save-On) have the best Nanaimo bars because they all use slightly different recipes.  My suggestion is the Valley Bakery on East Hastings in Burnaby.

  2. I like the ones they sell on the ferry going to Victoria (in that bakery they have..The one that leaves from tswassen) but i domt think that will help you very much lol.

Cindy's in West Vancouver had the best, but i think its a restaurat now.

Pretty much any from a bakery are good. Store bought ones are wayyy to sweet.

And the ones from m&m meats have fake icing in the middle, not the real kind.

  3. m&m meat has some pretty good ones.

  4. You can't... you have to take the ferry to Nanaimo
