  1. Try Chez Gerard in Covent Garden - £16.95 per head for 3 courses.

  2. The French House in Soho is very good.  Seasonal food, freshly cooked (they sometimes run out if you have a later sitting - the sign of a good restaurant in my book).  Intimate dining with knowledgeable and friendly staff and a great wine list - expect ot pay £50 a head for three course and wine.

    or...

South of the river try Chez Bruce in Dulwich - never been but a lot of my friends (and my boss - he's a restauranteur and I am a chef!) rave about this place.  Similar prices to the French house.

  3. La Bouchee has two course set menus for under 10 pounds if you enter before 7pm. Food is not bad and staffs are quite friendly.

    La Bouchee

    56 Old Brompton Road

    London SW7 3DY

    Tel: 020 7589 1929

Another good choice is Le Relais De Venise. There is no booking system and one menu (which are green salad with walnuts and trimmed sirloin steak and chips) though with a selection of desserts. Food are fresh as the restaurant is always busy. House wine is not bad neither.

    Le Relais De Venise

    120 Marylebone Lane

    London W1U 2QG

    Tel: 020 7486 0878
