  2. Hi Kylie,

Depends on what seafood as there's a lot of type seafood around Malaysia ranging from hawker centres to restaurants. This place and the seafood is so special because the smorgasboard of varieties of cultures that is being infused into our seafood and the taste is so varied ranging from Malays, Chinese, Indians and even you have the Portugese influence on our food.

Best crabs in town would be foodland restaurant with 33 styles or cooking maybe more now. A few other restaurants if u prefer would a view by the sea and the island life would be Pulau Ketam or Carey Island or Pulau Langat with the view of the sea and mangrove forest.

Also, the unique thing about seafood restaurants here is that you could pick and catch the seafood yourself to savor before being cooked just like the famous Sydney fish Market where you have choices of own to pick the seafood. That would be at Unique Seafood restaurant.

Btw, KELANA JAYA SEAFOOD CENTRE recommended by Tash16 has been closed down due to bad business as the food is not so good and fresh and many complaints on their food has been known.

Feel free to contact me and i can bring you around town if you want to savor all local flavors as you can get.

  3. Hi, I live in Tawau, Sabah and Tawau is well known for its fresh and cheap sea food. There is a lot of seafood restaurant but what I like the most is the one where is located by the sea (in town) near the KK bus terminal. I'm sorry I can't remember the restaurant name but I can show you where is the place if you drop by here. You can pick the seafood that you want to eat from the aquarium in the restaurant still alive and fresh- fishes, prawn, lobster, crabs, oyster etc....

  4. As a fan, I love your show and the way you use your lovely adjectives to describe the taste of your cooking! I can bet my last ringgit, if freshness and flavour is what you after rather than luxury then South China Sea Restaurant near the Subang Airport Terminal 3 would be a marvelous place to start. In here you will be spoilt for choice and everything is alive and kicking before its journey to the wok.

  5. I don't know about seafood in general, but I would definitely say that one of the best (if not the best) places to eat good crabs has to be a place called 'Jungle Hut Cafe' This place serves excellent crabs which are sure to be fresh as the crabs are delivered live, twice daily.

I am a big crab lover and have tried a lot of various places but this place definitely wins hands down when it comes to their crab dishes!!! Other than crabs, most of the other items on the menu are pretty good as well. Another 'Must Try' would be their 'Fish Head Bihun' (Bihun is actually rice vermicelli noodles.)

The address of this place is > Jungle Hut Cafe, 32 Jalan BRP 7/2A Bukit Rahman Putra 47000 Sg.Buloh, S'gor DE Malaysia. Tel : 603-6156 6560 (Ask for Eunice or Vincent)

Do take the time to try this place. I guarantee u won't be disappointed! :))

  6. Have you been to Kuantan? If yes, maybe you never reach to Beserah. This restaurant near to the beach and its not difficult to find. I think that restaurant is the best seafood in Malaysia. The seafood and the ingredient are very fresh and in good quality. This restaurant have been known among local and foreign tourists. The name of the restaurant is Paksu Seafoos Restaurant. Many Singaporean not 'miss' to come to this restaurant if they are coming to Kuantan and Cherating.

  7. I'm think u can get these delicious seafood at Sara Thai Tomyam Restaurant at Kuantan...my family luv to go to that place...it's very delicious and the price is affordable with it....

try it...and you also can go to restaurant all over Tanjung Lumpur...it's like a heaven for seafood in night because there's a lot of seafood,keropok...and also jus gelas besar...

but the Sara Thai Thomyam is the best...don't forget to try... ;)

  8. I think there is no such thing as the best seafood or other restaurant any where in the world.

A really good one, excellent seafood  and presentation, indoor/outdoor, homely yet professional with great   ambience . I cannot describe the dishes except to say they're mouth-watering. Food of course, is fresh .

Great attention to facilities like the toilets.

  9. i dnt think that only food makes a place special. You need the food, the place and everything to go right if you want to make the food to make you go swoon. I am a student in Melaka in MMU and i can suggest you to go to a restaurant in Melaka called Sea-fearer near to the klebang beach. The atmosphere and eating sea-food on a ship built over there with soft spanish guitar playing at the background by an artist....and all the mouth-watering sea-food dishes it all makes a date you can't forget. cheers!

  10. Hello, Kylie...

Have you ever been to Sabah? If not, try to get away from the city hustle and come over to Sandakan.  I am from Malacca but working here in the line of duty.  I've been eating out since my varsity years and had gone to practically every state and taste almost all states' main dishes (except Sarawak of course which I'll be going to this school holiday).  But, alas! I feel that I'm in heaven of seafood when I first came to Sabah.  to cut it short you should try the seafood dishes in the Ocean King restaurant in Sandakan.  they have tourists from the Western and the Asian countries alike, pouring in. And my dear, if you come in any later than 7.30 pm you won't be able to get the open-aired seats.  Maybe you should come and try them for yourself.  It's cheap, fresh and tasty, to say the least that it is a good bargain for your money!!!  Why not?

  11. If you are looking for a restaurant with the best seafood, that would be KELANA JAYA SEAFOOD CENTRE. it is in Kelana jaya, everybody would know it. It has fresh seafood and they have a lot of varieties. You can get almost everything there. It is very popular amoung tourist and locals. I always take my friends are relatives there Also if you want authentic malaysian cusine then i suggest you go to a place in kelana jaya where they have many stalls which serve up a lot of dishes, you can chose for yourself! everything is fresh and you get authentic malaysian cusine (and there is malaysian and indian and chinese food there aswell!)  Also, dont forget to try Ikan Bakar Pari. which is just grilled stingray- malaysian style.

PS: Kelana Jaya Seafood Centre is not closed. I resently went to it. This is a good website that will help you in the direction to the seafood centre. Also Penang is a good place for Seafood. http://www.marimari.com/content/malaysia...

Another Seafood Restaurant is Pantai Restaurant In Kampung Kayu Ara. You can make reservation at 03-7725 5099.

    I hope i helped!

Have a great time in Malaysia!

    Natasha

  12. Kuching, Sarawak in East Malaysia. Go to Buntal, a seaside village in Santubong. There is a Chinese seafood restaurant and it serves the best seafood in the city. Fresh seafood, caught by the local fishermen. Must try the curry fried 'ambal' (bamboo clam) and 'belacan midin' (stir fried laddle head fern in spicy shrimp paste). Yummy exotic seafood and panoramic sunset by the seaside. You'll agree with me!

  13. In Sandakan,  Sabah

    1. Bandar Nam Tung

They have this Seafood Restaurant by the sea serving GOOD, FRESH and CHEAP seafood.

    2. Pasir Putih (Pak Sar Kong)

Along the road to Sandakan Port, just before Ocean King Restaurant.

    3. Ang Ban Guan (Next to the Mosque)

They use to be a provision shop, but since converting to a restaurant, business has been good. Must try their Fried Cabbage, Mussel Soup.

  14. I myself love 3 Seafood restaurants in Malaysia which offer me a tasty and special seafood.

First, located at Kampung Subang Baru, near to the Subang Airport, named 'Gui Lin'  (Tel No : 0378461095). It's crab in variety way of cooking and chicken wing are the most popular dishes ordered by the guests.  The food here are so local, tasty , fresh and in a very reasonable price.

Second, located at Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, Just 60 to 90 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur. The most special that you can get from here are the most fresh seafood from the river but not from the sea. Like Patin King, Bak So Gong,......Here have a lot of restaurant to choose. May try 'Remember O.T.S Restaurant. (Tel no: 09-2330058)

Third, is located at Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu, is a fishing village which is far from Kuala Lumpur, named Restaurant Malaysia. The price here Expensive but the food are so fresh and special. For example the stuffed crab, fresh catch fish, prawn, lobster etc. This restaurant is a family business. All the workers here are family members. So, the food served are slow but may feel like eat at home.

  15. At my home.

I'm sure you can get a lot of good places offer delicious seafood even if you simply type in a search engine.

My answer might be very ridiculous to someone but I am very proud of it. My mum only cooks seafood once in a while because the seafood is expensive in town, especially Kuala Lumpur. Prawns, fish, shellfish, squid, seaweed and those easily accessible seafood will be my mum's choice. I love the seaweed soup very much though it is simple.

Perhaps, my mum's cooking is not as delicious as others, but she is always the best chef in my mind. I really hope to give my mum and dad a surpirse if I got the tickets, especially for the just passed mother's day and the coming father's day.

I know my answer might not be helpful and useful for you, Kylie. However, as a food consumer, I think the environment and atmosphere is the most important factor in food serving (other than the chinese's saying, "color, smell and taste"). Just like my home, I enjoy seafood the most when I have it with my beloved family even though it is just a simple steamed fish. Ops! Now hunger is hunting me :-) Time for lunch!

Have a good day in Malaysia! Take care.

  16. Come to Sabah, The Land Below The Wind.

    Enjoy seafood here!

    It's Good and Fresh.

Some places like in Tawau, Sandakan & Lahad Datu, it's relatively cheaper than in Kota Kinabalu, the state capital of Sabah.

I was told that the price of the same type of fish in KL is much smaller than that of in Sabah.

Here are some places in KK that may interest you:

    1. Grand Port View

    2. Port View

    3. Salut Seafood

    4. Gayang Seafood

    and many more

    - A Sabahan

  17. Sabah. Tawau and Sandakan welknown with their fresh seafood, If can't travel so far, arrive in KK- Kota Kinabalu , u can get nice seafood around town, small shops or restaurant. Small seafood shop if you fancy with mix fish staff i recomend you go to Wan Wan at Jalan Bundusan,Beverly Hills road. Ask around ppl wil know,Damai Hong Kee also very nice. Even Simon Yam ever ate there and give high score. Seafood restaurant in KK itself is Ocean Seafood or Port View, welknown with it's fresh and yummy way of cook, lot's of choice. Basically, Sabah KK also have lot's of really tasty small dishes.

  18. Hi Kylie,

I would suggest my home because mum makes the best seafood. Nothing beats a lovingly home cooked, authentic and hot meal, right? We would love to have you over for dinner anytime you are in town.  But if you still want to go to a restaurant, I would suggest Pantai Seafood Centre. It has tanks loaded with many varieties of seafood, cooked to YOUR specification. Good ambience and friendly service.

    Its also a BYOB restaurant.

    Have fun while in K.L!

  19. I would suggest Pandamaran, Klang where good and fair price seafood can be found. This street have various seafood ranging from fish to the migth crab with various gravy just 30min drive from the busy city of KL. If you were to visit this place don't forget to get the prawn steam with chinese wine and ginger and steam fish with noddles rice.

  20. Hmm... i luv seafood too.

So, i would suggest u to visit Tg Dawai, Sungai Petani Kedah to try the BBQed fish, squids, prawns. What makes it special is because these food are cooked using coconut shells instead of charcoal. It taste better.

Sabah - Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau or Labuan are also spots not to be missed when hunting for seafood. Some of the fishes/prawns here are not available in West Malaysia... which mean a better choice and fresher in taste Also the lobsters here are very cheap; half of the price we paid in West Malaysia (depending on the size)...

  21. Seafood is abundant is Sabah, where supplies are more than demand, prices for seafood is relatively cheap.. Therefore, restaurants in sabah took advantage of this and as a result, there are many great seafood restaurants in sabah particularly in kota kinabalu. From ordinary 'kedai kopi' to 5-star seafood restaurants, seafood is everywhere! In fact, just 5 minutes away from the kota kinabalu airport, a big seafood restaurant is found.. Great for savoring those seafood cravings before leaving or arriving in KK. From various types of fishes, stingrays, lobsters, crabs, abalone... etc etc, Sabah is the place to be for seafood lovers!

  22. Since there are a few suggestions in Klang, but I didn't see any suggestion to Pasir Penambang, a fisherman village in Kuala Selangor. This is a small town at the riverside, where is the harbour for fishboats. So, the seafood here are fresh and you can even ask for permission to look the processes of fresh seafood. Besides, it is very near the Kuala Selangor historical tourists attraction. In my opinion, Pasir Penambang, Kuala Selangor is the ideal place for a tourist. Hope you enjoy!

  23. Hi Kylie,

    Malaysia is divided into two:

    1) Peninsular Malaysia; and

    2) East Malaysia (on Borneo Island)

I'm from East Malaysia, to be exact, from Sarawak. The local delicacy is somehow totally different from the main land, I mean, Peninsular Malaysia.

When I watched one of the programmes on Discovery Travel & Living few months ago (I can't remember what's the name), they only covered food from Peninsular Malaysia. Then why not you taste some of the delicacies from my hometown?

For example "cencaluk" and "umai". I can't explain much as I don't how my grandmother process the "cencaluk". "Cencaluk" I think it is process from shrimps. And some of the shrimps are process to make "belacan" a.k.a shrimp paste. I think you know what it is right?

As for "umai", my dad, whose hobby is cooking too, knows how to prepare it. What is "Umai"? It's made from fish and to be eaten raw.

Actually there's a lot more and I can't figure it out now.

If you want to visit Malaysia especially Sarawak, do e-mail me. It's an honour for me to bring you around my hometown ^^

  26. There is variety of places to have seafood. As far as i know, there 3 places that i always go for to enjoy my seafood such as any type of prawn, crab, oyster's and mussel. The best location is at

    1) JoGoYa (Japanese Buffet) - 80% of the food is seafood, variety of cooking style.

    2) Klang to have best crab meat

    3) Kelana Jaya Seafood Restaurant enjoying the several type of prawn

  27. Well if you are visiting Kuala Lumpur, I will recommend you to visit Telekong at Klang. Why i would recommend this place? It is because first thing is the price is cheap. Furthermore they are serving various type of cooking on the sea food from hard shell to soft shell seafood. Even though this is not the high class kind of place is just a normal restaurant near jungles or which i can describe you can see alot of greenery's, for me the specialities is the natural environment that you will experience. Normally how do a person looks like when they having seafood? For sure we will use hand instead of using those stainless steel cutlery's. So for my point of view, this place called 'Telekong' is the place we can have seafood in a very cheap price and most comfortable traditional way.

  28. Hi Kylie,

I think the most tastiest seafood that I ever tasted is in Sabah. Basically you can go to any restaurant in Sabah and they will serve you the most freshest seafood they have.

But I want to share about my own experience, I have tried a restaurant called Jati Restaurant. It's near by the sea and the nearest landmark is the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

What make this place so special is because it situated by the beach so you can see and hear the waves while you enjoy your food, you can also choose the seafood yourself and you can also request how your seafood will be cook. for the seafood, of course it came fresh everyday and the price is quite cheap and reasonable.

  29. dear kylie,

you have to visit Sabah if you want to enjoy the REAL seafood.lots of place in Sabah offers juicy, fresh and cheap seafood like fish, huge prawns, crabs, lobster, big and juicy squids...they are all amazingly fresh and ready to be eaten by you.you can choose whether you want to have them boiled or barbequed, either way is amazingly fantastic!

the most famous place in KK (Kota Kinabalu-the capital city of Sabah) is Pasar Filipin.you can get cheap and delicious seafood there.enjoy!!

  30. Dear Kylie,

We have the same taste.  I love eating especially seafood. Since I was young, I remember my dad love to take us to seafood restaurants and I must say that I have explored many.  The best restaurant I ever been to is called Top Spot Restaurant in Kuching Sarawak, which is in East Malaysia.  It's heaven for seafood lovers!!!  Nothing fancy about the restaurant, it is located on a roof top of a building.

I just can't believe my eyes with the ranges of seafood .  You will find all kind of fish and sea shells, anything under the sea .  Any cooking style you name it -steam fish, deep fry chili, buttered prawn. ....I can't write more.  It's really mouth watering.

Awesome!!  I actually felt like racing to the restaurant right now.  Wishing you all the best in your seafood hunting.

Anyway, I found a little write up about the place:

    TopSpot FoodCourt

TopSpot FoodCourt, located on the 6th floor of Taman Kereta is a Seafood lovers’ paradise. Awaiting you are some of the freshest seafood in Kuching done to your preference. Select from a bewildering array of seafood from the popular Red Snapper to the less common and unique Sarawak bamboo snail. Whatever your choice, you will find the seafood here simply delicious!

    Take care

    Husna
