    To get a copyright, you don't need to register the material to be copyrighted, you could just put a copyright notice on your material, but for valuable written material or software, etc, you would want to get a registered copyright from the copyright office.

    I believe that the word "monopoly" is not what you are after.  A monopoly would be something like a utility company where there is no competition.  I think that the word "patented" is a better word choice for what you want.
