I am doing a report on wildfire in my area, and need to know how much lightning this area has seen. I understand that NOAA makes that information available, and I can't find it on their Web site. I live in Larimer County, Colorado.

  1. I think that the best map of the USA showing lightning strike density is at: http://www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov/ligh...

The obscure unit of flashes/sq km/year converts to the below:

      no/km2/yr      Average Spacing

           16---------------------926'

             8---------------------1309

             4---------------------1851

             2---------------------2618

             1---------------------3703

           0.5-------------------5237

To compare to the world lightning activity, please refer to http://www.nexteklightning.com/resources...

  2. call your local tv station the weather dept keeps up with that.
