Here are some activities you can do at home:

  2. I would go along with everything EC Expert said. Socializing and exploring the world are important for three year olds. Preschool years are the times for a child to learn how to learn and to enjoy learning. It allows them to be self sufficient when they are in kindergarten and they will crave knowledge! Enjoy your child's early years!

  3. Why would you want to force a 3 year old to do kindergarten work? Let him be three. He needs plenty of new experiences to grow his vocabulary, playdough and markers to get him ready to write, lots of chances to run and climb, opportunities to make believe, and lots of chances to learn to get along with other children. Enroll him in a good nursery school or join a playgroup. Read to him, a lot. Point out the letters in his name on signs. But lay off the pushing him! You are apt to do more harm than good. And by the way, there is lots of research that if you take a group of kids of equal intelligence and some know how to read before Kindergarten and some don't by Third grade the differences are a wash, and the ones who weren't reading are just as likely to excel.

  4. I was a student teacher in K and I can tell you that the kids who came in already knowing everything that was taught by their parents were BORED! I have a 3 year old also and I'm letting her be a kid. She's at a preschool that is play based and she loves it. She's doing art, cooking, socializing, music, computer games, etc. That's all she needs. I'm not planning on teaching her to read until her K teacher starts her on phonics. If you push a kid too early, they're turned off by school. Kids will have 12 years of education plus any college, that's plenty. Right now should be fun!

  5. Mardel's is a good place to start, they have tons of stuff.  Or if you go to Borders or Barnes and Nobles they have a book called "The complete preschool curriculum" or something.  Have fun!
