I was surfing the web and found out that you can get a blood test done to find out what Native American Tribes your ancestors came from, is that true?

Where do I go to get it done, and how much does it cost?

  1. DNA is not the best option

  2. There are companies that can pin point it to this continent, maybe even a area of it, but they can't tell you what tribe. And any that claim they can, keep your money.

That said, I saw this good show on PBS a while ago: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/aalives/2006/

I think this is the company they used:

  3. You can find out about what can be learnt from DNA testing, and the costs if you visit this site. You cannot learn which Native American tribe you have a connection to, only that you might have a haplogroup common to all American Indians.

  4. A DNA test can indeed tell you if you have Native American ancestry, but it CANNOT tell you which tribe your ancestors may have been a part of.

They don't need blood to do a DNA test, a simple mouth swab is enough...

There are a lot of limitations on DNA testing and what it can and cannot tell you. I have done a lot of research into DNA testing and the results are on my website at:

  5. Go do a DNA test....?
