My grandmother lives in the country and needs a converter box. She needs one with as little features as possible. She has the antenna on the outside of her house.

  1. You can apply to get coupons here as the boxes are $50-60:

  2. in some states the converter is illeagle but in some it is not. states like montana that have lots of mountins alow them. check catalogs in these states.

  3. A good one for people who need a simple converter is the RCA DAT 800B1. Some Walmarts carry them for about $50 ($10 after coupon).

This model has large buttons and can control the TVs volume directly. With many of the other converters you still need the original remote as well as the one to control the converter.

About as simple as they get.

If reception is marginal the Zenith DTT901 is probably better but it's remote is not nearly as elderly friendly.

About the "B1" at the end of the model number. This model is on it's third or fourth design change, so they have worked out the bugs. The same cannot be said about some of the other models.
