Where can I get a cheap train return ticket to from London Kings Cross to Newcastle?

I really want to visit some friends in Newcastle, but I have no idea how to get cheap tickets there. I'm not looking at spending any more on £40 for a return ticket, is this even possible?

Can some give me an idea of how much it will cost and where I could get tickets from? Thankyou.

You can book on National Express East Coasts website. The sooner you book the ticket the cheaper you can get it. If you wanted to travel early next week the cheapest return would be £120. If you were prepared to travel by bus you could find a cheaper price but it would increase your travel time. The two to check:

Virgin trains are about £40

if you set off from outside London it'll be cheaper
