Where can I get a good railroad map?

I am researching US railroads, but I can't find alot of information that I need. I need a map of the railroad system (to tell how many major railroads coverge at one point and where in the system is the farthest distance to the next rail system), but I am unable to locate one. I have tried a regular atlas, but haven't found any that include railroads. Any suggestions?

  1. http://www.railmaps.com/servlet/StoreFro...

Above site sells railroad maps and books.

They offer an un-laminated map of continental US for $29.95.

    Their 1999 2nd edition atlas runs $27.95.

    The 2005 3rd edition atlas is $74.95.

Here are the results listing for searching for railroad atlas at amazon.com.  There are used copies available for as little as $15.36.

  2. The SPV maps are great - they show incredible detail. Trouble is, of course, there are a lot of maps to cover the continental US. But they are worth it - it sounds like you want the detail that a single map won't give you.
