I live in Queens,NY. Im gonna turn 14 next year and I know its a little forward, but i want to find a job for summer of '09. But not a job like babysitting or dog walking. More like a job where I can earn some money to buy things for the following school year and some things for myself. Any ideas of where I can start to look? Any help would be nice!! Thank you!

  1. Fast foods! My friend used to work at burger king and he was making like $200 a week. He works at taco bell now and I think they're paying him more. But we live in jersey. I dont think the salary difference should be much more.

Oh and if you go to the YMCA they'll train you to be a lifeguard and you'll make like $16.00 a hour, which is alot of money. That might be more then my taco bell friend is making. But we're all 16.

  2. It is a little bit hard to find a job when you are only going to be 14 and it is very admirable and shows that you have a great sense of maturity for your age.

Here are a couple of things you can consider (and you could even do them now, either afterschool or on the weekends)...

    1.  See if your mom and dad have some extra chores that they would be willing to give you a little extra allowance for (things such as washing the car, shovelling the snow in the winter).

    2.  If you have some elderly or handicapped neighbors, maybe you could see if maybe you could earn a little extra money doing chores for them (housekeeping, running a few errands in the neighborhood like to the corner store, etc.)

    3.  In the winter months, you could go to your neighbors and make money shovelling snow.

Don't expect to become a millionaire by doing any of these types of things and keep your costs fair and reasonable, like don't expect to run down to the corner market that is ½ block away and charge someone $10, charge maybe $1-$2.

You should also consider opening a savings account at a local bank and get an account that will give you interest and you will be making money on the money you deposit, even if it is only 5-10c.  Your mom or dad can help get you set up with this.

    Good luck.
