  1. You will not find a purebred lab for under $150...

You can look... but such cases are rare.

    Try http://petfinder.com

I know they might have some labs who are looking for a good home. You can search by, age, location, breed, gender...etc It is a good reliable source. Good luck!

  2. try an animal shelter.  the only want some $$ to cover some of thier cost.  or you can try freecycle.com sometimes people give away dogs there.  and sometimes they give them away in the news paper.  they are not always pups tho.

I got one from a shelter and she is great.  now if my neighbor was also then the whole neighborhood would be much happier as well as my lab.  she just turned a year :-)

    Good Luck

  3. · The best place to get a puppy is from a local SPCA, shelter, or rescue. These puppies usually come spayed/neutered, and are up to date on their vaccine shots. This saves you a fair amount on initial vet costs. Adoption fees are usually around $80-$400. Lower for a city shelter, and a bit higher for privately funded rescues.

The main cost of a dog comes from the year to year maintenance costs. The initial cost of a dog is nothing compared to the maintenance costs. Initial vet visits for your puppy and vaccine shots alone can cost you $600-$1000. Add in food, toys, training equipment, training lessons, grooming tools, vet care, etc and it all comes to a lot of money every year.

If you really want a purebred puppy, then I would go to an accredited club breeder. Go to the AKC website, and look up the breed you are interested in. Here is a link to the AKC breeder search:

Don't get a puppy from a pet store or from an online store. Pet store puppies tend to come from puppy mills, who abuse their dogs because they are only interested in making money.

  4. I live in southern california as well and purchased my lab from a breeder for a higher price than 250 so i would consider that a semi-reasonable price for a pure bread!

If you are looking for a very inexpensive lab i would search your local animal shelter. Also keep youre eye out for neighbors or friends looking for a home for their pet!

Please please please do not buy a dog from a pet store however, animals in pet stores are bred in puppy mills which horribly mistreat dogs and puppies. Most of the animals also come sick with diseases such as worms which become very costly very quickly, so even if it seems like a low price vet bills will even it out!

  6. look for a lab rescue in your area, or adopt from a local shelter.
