Where can I get a mens haircut in Central Manchester for less than £10?

All I want is an old-fashioned barber - preferably with a stripey pole outside his shop - to run a set of clippers over my gradually receding hairline, like a mower over a little lawn. It won't take him 10 minutes, and I don't normally pay more than £6. But the only places I seem to be able to find are places trying to style my hair and charge me at least £15 for the privilege. I long ago gave up any ambition to have a hairstyle; the best I can hope for from a haircut is shorter hair. It can't be that hard...

  1. what i did i bought a hair shaving kit and in the long run you will save money, and you can shave you hair in different grades too it just takes practise, last time I went for a hair cut was 1996 and have saved a fortune

  2. There is a place on the corner in Withington. The Barber Shop I think it's called. It is the little shop run by 2 men that is on the main road near palantine road.

  3. put a bowl on your head and buy some cheap shears.

  4. There are plenty of decent old fashioned barbers if you move out of the city centre.

I used to use one in Eccles, opposite the library. He or she always did a good job and charged only £5 for a clipper job.

Most of the old type ones with a stripey pole have been forced out of the city centre due to high rents and Manchester City Council's obsession with knocking the character out of Manchester and replacing it with glass and chrome monstrosities.
