If the teacher doesn't (or won't) make the recommendation, you have the right to make the request at his school yourself. Be prepared to have the administration try to discourage you, but don't give up. There are many children who do not do well in Classwork Completion because they are just too bored to be bothered. They don't feel challenged, and so they lose interest in participating. You have to be the voice for your son. No one else will do it, and certainly not with the same fervor and passion as you.

Our school district tests all second graders for initial screening for the gifted program. The test is called the RAVEN.

Most schools test I would ask them. I don't know what it is called but if you tell them what you are looking for they will know the test. Not sure at what age they start testing for it either. But they are the best place to start.

the schools normally do it when they think they've found a gifted child. i mean i'm gifted but my parents never did any tests. I've been having to do tests at my school to check my mental capablilties and to see if i really am gifted and not just like smart.But the school should do the testing.

does his school have a gifted programme? If so, they should notice.

An I.Q test or an I.E.P test ? .... You can mention what your talking about to his doctor and he/she can refer you. You could also ask at his school.
