anybody know? also what are the insurance details in canada..how much would it cost If i don't have insurance?

I'd like to go to a clinic instead of a family doctor, cause I don't believe in family doctors (they'd get too personal over such a matter, seeing how I am 21).

  1. Going through Planned Parenthood or similar outfit might be cheaper.

Also, consider donating sperm before you get snipped.

Vasectomies can be reversed, but success is NOT guaranteed.

Sperm can be stored, but it is not cheap.

Your family doc is ethically and legally required to maintain confidentiality.

  2. The most common reason for regret after vasectomy is young age at vasectomy. The second most common reason for regret is change in the desire to have children over time or after divorce and re-marriage.

The third most common reason for regret is chronic pain after vasectomy which causes about 1% of vasectomized men to seek reversal to treat the pain.

Do a Yahoo search for "post vasectomy pain" before you decide. Or better yet, go to Pubmed and search the medical literature yourself.

It is interesting to note that if a man has an uneventful vasectomy and does not develop any chronic pain symptoms or symptoms that affect sexual function, then he is generally pro-vasectomy. If, however, the man develops post-vasectomy pain that is significant or affects sexual function, he is generally anti-vasectomy. In fact, the two groups are polar opposites. The former frequently feel no regret, and the latter frequently feel that vasectomy was the worst decision they ever made. The difference between the two groups is luck. There is no way to predict who will end up in either group. It's like playing roulette with the "house" space being post-vasectomy pain.

    Good luck...

  3. I had one at age 21.  I just called the local public health center and asked for a referral.  I paid cash.  No I have no children.  I am now 42, and VERY thankful that I got it.

  4. Look in the yellow pages to see if you can find a Doctor Specialist under UROLOGY.

However, your family doctor may have a good point for you to consider.  Not too many guys want a vasectomy at the age of 21.  Even if you think now you never want any kids or you want the convenience of not wearing a condom -- can you really be certain your thinking will be the same when you are 35 or 40 years old.

At the age of 21, I knew I did NOT want kids.  But I waited until I was 40 to get a vasectomy and I'm glad I did.

If you have any doubts whatsoever about doing this, you are not ready.  It's really something a guy has to know is right for several years before he should get it done.

Sorry, not sure about the insurance situation in Canada.  But I know at one time it was covered by provincial medicare plans, but maybe NOT for guys your age.
