Where can I get a video editor?

I have Windows Movie Maker on my computer but I don't really like it because I'm pretty much tired of all the lame effects..

So, I tried getting Windows Movie Maker 2.. and I pretty much screwed up my regular Windows Movie Maker.

I've heard of Sony Vegas, but it wouldn't let me download it and it kept on telling me to download something called the .NET 1.1 service pack or something =/.. and I did.

Please tell me where I can download a good video editor that's free and virus free? ( details please)

If I ask my mother for anymore stuff that costs money she'll lecture for an hour about money x_x.

I make Sims 2 music videos and I'm tired of Windows Movie Maker.

Jahshaka is open source and is powerful enought to do what you need.
