I am a college student who has alot of anxiety right now due to the recent divorce of my parents. I would greatly benefit from having psychological treatment right now but I have no insurance & it is expensive. Does anybody know of an insurance that would cover this?

  1. There are a lot of charitable organizations that offer psychological counseling on a sliding fee scale.  Catholic Charities is one.  Most Jewish Community Centers also offer counseling.  You don't have to be affliated with the religion.  Also, look into whether student services offers counseling.

Are you not covered under the medical insurance of one of your parents?  As a student, you're elegible.

  2. The only place you can get group health insurance, is through an employer.

Most insurances are going to have a $25 copay anyway, for counseling.  I'd suggest you call to a few counselors, see if they'd agree to see you during "non peak" hours, for just the $25 a session.

  3. Check with your college first-they may offer insurance you could apply for or they may have a student health center where you could receive a referral for treatment at a reduced rate.
