Question:

Where can I get an add-on "Safe distance following sensor"?

In late model, hi-end cars, there is a component colloquailly referred to as a "Safe Distance Following Sensor". (Mercedes Benz S550 calls it Distronic, Nissan calls it Adaptive Cruise control). I'll admit up front that my 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero is neither "late model, nor "hi-end". Is there an aftermarket device that will alert the driver when within say, 2-5 seconds of the preceding vehicle? I don't need the brakes to be managed by the system, just an alert (visual / aural) to let me know when I'm within preset parameters

  1. For liability reasons there are no aftermarket units available. You can get these devices for parking but they are intended for the rear of the vehicle and I believe that are disabled when the car is taken out of REVERSE. With all the automatic devices and aids to the driver in modern cars, the driver has almost been removed from the equation. "Excuse me, Honey, but I have to take a nap. I'm going for a drive"

  2. WHAT?!?!?!

how did you get your licence?!

If you need a computer to tell you how to drive then you shouldn't be on the road. h**l- you don't deserve to even look at a car.

  3. why does everyone need a light or a buzzer to tell them how to do something that should be something that should be done if you really cant tell how far two or three car spaces are maybe you should try learning how to drive

  4. They make something that might help you, try this site...
