Where can I get best value for my South African Rand?

We would like to travel from South Africa to international destinations. In which countries or regions will we get the best value for our South African currency (Rand)?

Check with your local banks in the big cities, (Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria).  Always check several banks to see which is offering the best deal.  If traveling, however, I usually use my credit card for most of my expenses.  Check with each credit card company to see what how they charge for international purchases - believe me, they are very very different.  You may want to even get a new credit card that charges a very low percentage of the value of the transaction.  This way, you do not have to exchange your Rand into very many other currencies.  I tend to use my Visa card as it is accepted internaltionally.
