  1. Try a metal scrapyard, but as suggested sash weights are best you can spread the weight more evenly, have used this method myself, the sash weights are stamped with the weight. Another source to try are double glazing companies, who will have replaced the old sash & case windows and have loads of sash weights.

  2. I have 2 in my garden holding down the trampoline.! wouldn't like to post them though!

  3. I went to a gun range and they let me take all the lead I could want for ballast free.

  4. Try a demolition yard as they sell things like cast iron sash weights etc.

  5. Your could use concrete poured into a mould.

  6. Why don't you use, or make a round, or square  mould, about  8 inches deep, & say 12 inches, in diameter, (or less)   if you like,    fill it with cement, & put a ring or handle on the top.

or sand bags, but have them strong to avoid  rot.

  7. we used high density paving slabs, they worked. I think most people use these.

If you want iron weights, you could try the ones we use on tractors. Often farmers have these lying around. But please, ASK at the house, don't look around - there are plenty of scap thieves about and you don't want to be mistaken for a thief. Especially by someone with a shotgun licience ;-)
