Where can I get free domain names and free web hosting?

I was wondering if you can get both free domain names and free web hosting and where you can get it?

PLEASE DO NOT SAY GOOGLE IT.

I have been googling, but most websites seem to say free, but then want to charge you.

I'm not being a cheapskate, i was just wondering if there was any for free, because i'd rather not give credit card/bank details online.

So where can I get free domain and hosting?

thanks

  1. You can set up  your website anywhere like with freewebs or google sites, and then have a free domain with .tk (www.yourwebsite.tk)

    check it out! (:

  2. You cannot get a free .com domain anywhere in the world.

  3. Shubhkriti is the best I've used it. visit their site http://www.shubhkriti.com

  4. As said above, there is no such thing as a free lunch.  You may get a free domain, but will be bombarded by adverts you don't want (and have no control over).

A good domain and server costs less than 100$/year: not even worth trying to avoid.

And, as far as giving your CC details on the net, it is MUCH more secure than passing your card to the waiter to pay your bill!  Even "Holes-in-the-wall" are subject to fraud...

Remember: you CC gives you a guarantee against fraud, and if you report one, you will be refunded... So, why panicking?

  5. I found a huge online list of personal web hosting companies. http://www.findwebsitehost.com Locating a nearby webhosting company might have it's advantages because you can visit their facility if you need help.

  6. For the domain, you can go to EzyRewards.  There, all you have to do is earn enough points and you can get your own domain for free.

For the hosting- the best free website host I know is 000WebHost.  You don't have to put any ads on your website and they have a website builder for those who are inexperienced with HTML.

  7. HU.TL offers free web hosting with no ads on your site and, is the shortest subdomain hosting on the market.

    check http://www.hu.tl

  8. No, i don't blame you for wanting free. Everyone likes free :).

The truth is, no matter how hard you look, you will never find a completely free domain name. The closest you will find is Microsoft Small Business' offer for a free domain for a year. After that, you have to use a subdomain.

But there are plenty of hosts that serve subdomains, which are completely free, along with hosting. They get money from ads on your control panel and sometimes on your site.

I suggest LeadHoster or AwardSpace, or maybe even x10hosting.

    http://www.x10hosting.com

These are probably some of the top 5 best free web hosts.

  13. There are companies out there that offer free domain hosting. I don't know any out of the top of my head, but they're out there. You just have to deal with a lot of downtime and the possibility that you have to move from host to host.

There is no guarantee that you'd be with the same host forever, even if you pay for the hosting, and well, let's be honest, hosting is more vulnerable if it's offered to you for free, like everything else.

Free domains don't really exist I'm afraid. Just like you said, a lot of websites *say* that they're free, but they just want to trick you.

There is Domain Lagoon, where you have to complete offers in order to get a domain name. But they're legit. However, I won't reccommend it if you are under the age of 18. It's impossible to get a free domain if you're a teenager anyway.

That pretty much answers your primary questions, but I want to add something else:

Buying things online is a lot safer than you would think, especially if you have paypal. And all you need to open a paypal account is a bank account, and it sounds like you have one. I would reccommend asmallorange.com. They're fabulous. $35 dollars a year for a domain and a small hosting package, but 75 mbs was plenty enough for me.

EVERYONE wants things for free, but our society doesn't work that way.
