  1. If you are in TX, you can make up your own Curric.  My mom did it for 5 years.

  2. Your house.

You can also go to public school for free, too. You might as well; your taxes are paying for it anyway.

  3. I did not look up the homeschool law in Texas, but hopefully you can homeschool by creating your own curriculum.

My son is going into the 11th and has homeschooled since the 8th grade.   We use old textbooks for math and language arts.   The text books in math give detailed descriptions in the book and the publishers website has online tutor that helps if you are an auditory learner.  We do not have the teacher book, but the answers for the odds are in the back to make sure that he understands the work.

We have an 8th grade language arts book with the teacher's book for mechanics.   That is usually learned before high school but we still use it for reference.  Punctuation and parts of speech still are a challenge in our family.  We use the College Board website for the question of the day and other helps.

I think literature is very important and we are blessed with a good library and ebooks online.

Science, history, civics, etc are done with whatever we think is interesting.   We use online video lectures and go from there in research.  We have several text books that were picked up (from the trash cans) at the school where my husband and I work.   We find books at yard sales and the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores.  The best research source is the internet.

Here are a couple of websites for free college lectures that may help you find subjects that will be of interest to study.

  4. It may seem flip, but "at home" would be the right answer.  There's tons of stuff on the internet, and tons more at the library.  Go to the Texas DOE website, and check out what each course you want is supposed to contain.  It might be under "Grade Level Expectations" or another name that means the same thing.  It's what a student is supposed to have covered in each course for all twelve years, plus K and PreK.  Print this out, and then look up all the items on the list, and make sure you can do them.  You'll find this info in lots of various places on the internet and the library, without having to have a specific textbook with teacher's manual and tests.

  5. With a little work you can get everything you need from the library.

  6. From what I can tell there is nothing else in TX. You would have to go with an online charter like Progress Academy or Class that will allow you to make monthly payments and is affordable.

  7. You could get home schooled at home
