Where can I get my figure skate blades sharpened?

Question

I just a new pair of ice skates,but it says you need to sharpen the blades before using it.So can somebody tell me where can you get your ice skates blades sharpened? I live in San Diego,CA and thanks for help! thank you.

Ask your coach, or a club coach. My coaches husband does blade sharpening, for me. If still no luck, go to your local sporting-goods store.

What you want to do is take them to a pro shop - often these are attached to ice rinks.  So call up your local ice rink and ask. If they don't sharpen, they will know where all the figure skaters go for their sharpenings.  Make sure you don't just let the guy who does hockey skates do yours!

Did you order them online? If not, the shop that sold you the skates should be able to sharpen them. If you did buy them online, make sure you are happy with their fit because once you sharpen them, you can't return them.

Usually you can get a pair of skates sharpened at any ice rink, regardless whether they have a pro shop or not.

All rinks have rental skates, and it may not seem like it, but they have to sharpen them SOMETIME.

Most pro shops are attached to the rink and sell other products like guards, dresses, soakers, skates, etc. If you don't have them already, I would suggest getting a nice pair of guards and a pair of fuzzy soakers to protect the blade from dulling and rusting.

If you have lessons ask your coach and they will probally do them for you. If not, take then to an ice rink shop - a pro shop and they should do skate sharpening there. Sorry i cant be anymore help i live over seas from you.
