Question:

Where can I get new hands for a large wall clock?

Need a minute hand 18 1/2 inches long and hour hand 9 3/4 inches long. Hopefully this will make my clock work right. Right now it runs for about an hour and then the hands stop pointing toward the bottom of the clock. Any ideas?

  1. That's a huge clock.  Sometimes you can buy clock hands at a crafts supplies store.  They may not have them this big, though.

I'd check the holes in the clock hands you have.  Have the holes become worn?  Are they slipping?  Would something like thread tape, put onto the post they sit on, help them?  That might be worth a try while you're trying to locate new hands.

  2. One source of clock parts to try is:

    Klockit

    www.klockit.com

    Also ask for their catalog.

  3. The little nuts that hold the hands on the shaft may have worked loose.  Try tightening them.  If they won't tighten, I'd try some super glue to keep them attached to the shafts.

  4. Before you invest in new hands you should probably make sure it is the fault of the hands. Each hand is on a different shaft and it seems odd that both would come loose at the same time.  Your clock may have a problem internally.
