I would start by placing "free" ads in

The Chicago Reader

and

Livedeal.com (make sure to place it in the "local" section not "national"

I would also check out their "job" listings while you are there.

When placing the free ads, make sure you

list what section of the City you are willing to work in e.g. north, south, etc.  Or, put the community name you are willing to work in.  List a few of your skills.  Do not put any $$$ in the ad.  This you can negotiate later.

I would also make up a flyer on your computer.

Drop them off at local stores, businesses, etc.

Working close to home would be beneficial with gas prices the way they are and smaller businesses are more apt to pay you cash.

Check out the Jewel or Dominick's stores in your neighborhood.  See if they are hiring night crew.
