Question:

Where can I get really good olive oil?

We recently returned from a wonderful holiday in Italy. I failed, however, to obtain a good source for olive oil. While in Sicily, Palma di Montechiaro was highly recommended by a trusted source, but I only find a city by that name in my search. Does anyone know of an olive oil producer in Palma di Montechiaro that can ship to US? I want a very good tasting olive oil, extra virgin first cold pressed.

  1. Downtown there is this little store, that exclusivly sells olive oil. They sell local brands and imports, they sell bottles as old as 100 years.  It's almost like a wine store, it's really neat.

Forget the name though. I think it's called 'Off the Vine' or something.

    oh, I live in Sarasota.

  2. Italian Deli that actually has food from Italy

  3. we have very good olive oils in modena italy also... we started the whole thing up :) see if you can get some from there too!!!

  4. There is a company out of Copperopolis CA that makes a good variety, although perhaps not what you are looking for. still, check them out; you may be surprised

  6. You might try here

              Sciabica's

         2150 Yosemite Blvd.

         Modesto, Ca. 95354

  7. You might try calling some of your 'better' Italian restaurants.  Their vendors might be able to give them a better break on cost if their supply demand increased.

You might have to buy a case to sell to your friends, nonetheless, it's worth a try and saves you the headaches of having to import it on your own and go through all the red tape.

  14. I don't know where you live, but for what I concerne (I'm living in US but I'm from Italy), most of the product that you find in the stores, I don't know the reason but they are unknown in Italy. Pasta, tomatoes pelate, cakes, some wine and also oil.

I don't know about the oil from Palma di Montechiaro, but you can find some good brands also in US.

By the way the Regions famous for good olive oil are Tuscany and Umbria (most tourist doesn't know it but is a nice nice region).

Here some brands I found in stores.

Monini (my favorite), Sasso (very light. Moms use it for kids, but good taste), Bertolli, Carapelli. Buy the extra vergine di oliva.
